UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for crossings into the besieged Gaza to be reopened immediately and urged Israel to stop any escalation.

Talking to reporters at the UN Headquarters in New York, he said the closure of both the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings is damaging to an already dire humanitarian situation.
