At the United Nations, Pakistan has warned of BJP-RSS extremists’ threats to destroy more Islamic sites in India.

Speaking in a virtual High-Level Forum on the Culture of Peace, Pakistan's permanent representative to United Nation Munir Akram expressed concern that UN principles are being flouted over 1992 destruction of historic Babri Mosque in Indian city of Ayodhya and construction now underway of a Hindu Temple on its site.

Munir Akram said Pakistan supported the UN Plan to Safeguard Religious Sites but warned of threats by extremists of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and its affiliate Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to destroy hundreds of other mosques and historic Islamic religious sites across India.

He said conscious plan to destroy Islamic cultural identity and change Muslims demography of Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is a serious violation of international law including Fourth Geneva Convention.

Ambassador Akram said mankind had made unprecedented progress, in the past 75 years, towards a world order based, not only on power but human values.
