Speaking after the inauguration of Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit project in Peshawar today, Prime Minister Imran Khan said the modern transport service is the first step towards the development.
Calling the project “a great development, the prime minister hoped that the BRT project would help enhance Peshawar’s per capital income and bring about prosperity making the travelling experience easier and comfortable.
Imran Khan said specially lauded the BRT fare list introducing 10 to 50 rupees for 27 kilometre journey and said it would make it affordable especially for the labourers to move around in search of wage.
He appreciated the idea of introducing the hybrid buses to be fuelled by a mix of diesel and electricity that would help reduce the pollution level.
Earlier, the prime minister was briefed in detail about the project’s features and significance.
He also inspected the bus, the control room and other facilities provided for the comfort and ease of the passengers.
Initially, 220 air-conditioned buses will ply on the corridor. Free Wi-Fi and mobile charging facilities have also been arranged for travellers.
More than three-hundred thousand commuters will use BRT on daily basis.
The project has been completed at a cost of seventy billion rupees.
Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz says the inauguration of Peshawar BRT project is a fulfilment of another promise of PTI government.
In a tweet today, he said the state-of-the-art project is a gift from Prime Minister Imran Khan to the people of Peshawar.
