Analysts endorse political processes only solution to Afghan issue
February 19, 2018

Dr. Amina Mahmood (IR Expert):

If United States is serious in holding talks with Taliban, it should start process of consultation with all the stakeholders in Afghanistan. Neglecting geo-political situation, the US once again wants to adopt cold war policy, however, it would not be beneficial for it. It is pertinent to mention that the US does not want its pullout from Afghanistan, but history of Afghanistan is different as foreign invaders have always been defeated in Afghanistan whenever they tried to occupy its resources. The Afghan Taliban is a ground reality and occupies more than 70 percent area in Afghanistan. The penetration of Russian and other anti US powers in Afghanistan cannot be over sighted as well.

Dr. Hassan Askari Rizvi (Defence Analyst):

Pakistan has already repeated number of times at different international fora that peace in Afghanistan lies in dialogue, not in war. Now, the US itself is working on dialogue process to resolve this issue as it has realized that war is not ultimate solution of the issue. On the other hand, trust deficit exists in circles of the Afghan Taliban towards the US. It is high time for the US to remove this deficit and build confidence building measures to bring the Taliban on negotiation table.
