The United States says Pakistan has taken positive steps in the right direction in crack down on terrorist groups.

This was stated by State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert in a press briefing in Washington.

She said US Vice President Mike Pence and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi during a meeting in Washington last week exchanged views on US South Asia strategy.

The spokesperson said Pakistan can play a critical role in bringing Afghan Taliban to the negotiating table.
