PM welcomes improvement in key economic indicators

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the improvement in key economic indicators reflected in the monthly economic outlook report.

In a statement, he said the significant increase in remittances reflects the confidence of overseas Pakistanis in the country's economy.

The Prime Minister said remittances increased from 6.3 billion dollars in July and August to over 7.3 billion dollars, while the 16.5 percent year-on-year increase in remittances in August is encouraging.

He termed overseas Pakistanis a valuable national asset, who send their hard-earned money back home.

The Prime Minister said a four percent increase in exports is an encouraging development for the national economy.

He said the government is taking measures to facilitate the export sector and small and medium-sized industries.

He said the decline in the current account deficit and increase in foreign direct investment reflect positive progress towards economic stability.

Shehbaz Sharif said overall foreign investment increased by 80.2 percent in July and August, which reflects growing investor confidence.

He said the government is providing a conducive environment to investors to improve economic activity in the country.

The Prime Minister said foreign exchange reserves reaching 26.8 billion dollars indicate improvement in the country's external sector.

He said the government will continue implementing reforms and effective economic policies to stabilize the economy. He added that putting the economy on sustainable foundations remains the government's top priority.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the rise in large-scale manufacturing, saying its 3.03 percent growth in July is encouraging.

He said a surge in agricultural lending is an important development for the growth of the agriculture sector and financial support to farmers.

The Prime Minister said the significant increase in company registrations is a manifestation of growing business activity. He added that registrations increased by 38.8 percent to 10,199 in July.

He said the significant rise in the Pakistan Stock Exchange reflects improvement in investors' confidence.

Shehbaz Sharif said the government will further consolidate economic growth through reforms and promotion of investment in all sectors of the economy.

He said the government will continue its efforts to ensure that the benefits of economic stability reach the people and create more employment and business opportunities.

The Prime Minister reiterated that the process of reforms will be further accelerated to transform Pakistan into a strong, stable and sustainable economy.
