Analyst appreciates Pakistan’s efforts to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan
December 01, 2022

Mushtaq Ahmed Mehar (Former Ambassador): Afghanistan is facing a number of issues at this point of time. The main issue is the tribal division that is leading to the conflicts. The interim government is unable to control all the factions and bring them on the same page to become one nation. It normally happens in countries that have faced civil wars. If the Taliban government manages to bring all the stakeholders on one page, many issues could be resolved. The governance in Afghanistan is not up to the standard. Moreover, the increasing internal instability in the war-torn country, a mass evacuation of refugees to other countries, and a growing humanitarian crisis further exacerbated by global food and energy markets could have regional spill over effects. Pakistan has done its best in its efforts to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan. But unfortunately the Afghan government is unable to control its land being used against the neighboring countries particularly Pakistan. Even today, a large number of Afghan refugees are still residing in Pakistan that is also adding to the difficulties in the economic stability of the country. If the Afghanistan situation deteriorates into chaos, the international community will no doubt be negatively impacted and that would be a disaster for the region and the whole world as well.
