ECP decides to implement SC's opinion on Presidential reference

The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to implement in letter and spirit the Supreme Court's opinion on the Presidential reference regarding conduct of the Senate elections.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Election Commission, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, in Islamabad.

The meeting noted that the Commission is taking all possible steps and measures to fulfill its constitutional duty to check that corrupt practices in the Senate elections are guarded against.

In the light the Supreme Court's opinion, the Commission decided to constitute a committee to prepare recommendations regarding use of technology in Senate elections within a period of four weeks. However, due to time constraints, ensuring the Senate elections tomorrow, the Commission decided the elections will be conducted as provided in the Constitution and law as per past practice.
