Folk singer Shaukat Ali expired in Lahore today (Friday), after protracted illness from liver disease.
He was introduced into the film industry as a playback singer in Punjabi film Tees Maar Khan in 1963.
He was well known for singing Sufi poetry including Heer Waris Shah and Saif ul Malook.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of renowned singer Shaukat Ali.
In a condolence message today, he prayed for high ranks to the departed soul and patience of the bereaved family.
He said that his services in singing field will always be remembered in golden words.

In a statement today, he said his death has aggrieved the entire nation. He said the national songs sung by him played a historic role during war times.
