Analysts express support to Kashmiris in achieving their right to self determination
December 02, 2020

Dr. Salman Shah (Advisor to Punjab Government):

Kashmir has been under illegal Indian occupation for last over 70 years but the Kashmiris are continuing their struggle to get their fundamental right to self-determination. The situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir became worse when the present Indian government abrogated article 370 and 35-A in order to change the demography of the occupied valley. At this point of time the resolution adopted in the OIC Foreign Ministers Council is of vital importance as it would be part of international records. The more we are able to represent the Kashmir issue in front of the world, the more will be the international pressure mounted on India. OIC has a large number of countries as its members. The resolution is the victory of Kashmiri people. India will have to pay the price of its illegal occupation, grave human rights violations in IIOJ&K in terms of damaging its international reputation and international pressure as well. The international organizations are documenting Indian human rights violations and massive genocide in IIOJ&K. Kashmiris will definitely get their right of plebiscite sooner or later because of efforts of Pakistan at diplomatic level and sacrifices of Kashmiris.

Dr. Talat Wazarat (IR Expert):

It was the misperception initially that Kashmir issue is not at the agenda of OIC Foreign Minister meeting. However, the resolution passed on the forum is victory of the narrative of Pakistan and Kashmiri people as well. It is the right time to take practical steps in order to resolve this core dispute. The Muslim countries must have to exert pressure on India and even boycott the Indian trades in order to stop Indian atrocities and human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, the entire Palestine is of Palestinians and it is unfortunate that Israel is illegally occupying the Palestine territory. It is unfortunate that some of the Muslim countries have accepted Israel as a state. The policy of Pakistan is straight forward and the present government is determined to never accept Israel as a state until the Palestinians get a just and fair settlement according to the will of the people of Palestine & the resolutions of the UN.

Dr. Huma Baqai (IR Expert):

The statement of UN secretary General is important as far as Palestine issue is concerned. Unfortunately, some important countries including United Arab Emirates tilted towards Israel and accepted it as a state. There are speculations that Pakistan’s longtime ally Saudi Arabia is exerting pressure on Islamabad to recognize Israel, but Pakistan is determined not to recognize Israel despite of the pressure. It will definitely be a hurdle in the resolution of Palestine-Israel conflict.

Dr. Rasheed Ahmed Khan (IR Expert):

The two-state solution to Israeli-Palestinian conflict was proposed by the United Nations itself in 1947, but unfortunately some Arab countries opposed the option at that time. Israel will never support this opinion as it will be a hurdle in its ambitions for territorial hegemony. With the support of the international community, toward a two-state solution and will create opportunities for regional cooperation. The framework capable of realizing the legitimate aspirations of both peoples is one of two states, living side-by-side in peace and security, based on the 1967 borders. Pakistan's foreign policy on Palestine is simple and crystal clear that it will not recognize Israel until there is a Palestinian state acceptable to the Palestinians. So, Pakistan cannot ever accept Israel as long as Palestinians are not given their rights and there is no just settlement.
