Experts appreciate the new momentum in CPEC projects under the incumbent government
December 02, 2022

Dr. Ghulam Samad (Economist): In terms of overall progress in CPEC, it is going very well. The current government has expedited the pace of this mega project. Second phase of CPEC is going quite well, especially in relation to agriculture. We faced some delays in energy projects, but these will also be completed soon. I am highly optimistic that CPEC will gather momentum under the tenure of present government. Energy requirements of Pakistan are rapid increasingly and we need to look toward various international suppliers. Pakistan cannot afford energy shortages as these cause damage to GDP of the country. The present government is taking care of this issue and focusing more on increasing energy supplies of the country.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): Pak, China relations have steadily improved over the years. Both countries want peace and prosperity in the region. The national interests of both countries converge on a host of issues. China has started a number of projects in Pakistan through CPEC, which will improve living standard of people. CPEC is pivot of One Belt One Road initiative of China which aims to see connectivity and infrastructure development in various countries. Over 60 percent population of Pakistan comprises of youth whose potential can be harnessed for improving the economy of the country. Pakistan wants to extend the benefits of CPEC to neighboring Afghanistan too, so that it also develops.
