Kamran Murtaza (Senator, JUI): The verdict of the Supreme Court will worsen the situation. It is not in the interest of any political party or for the country itself. Keeping in view the current situation is adding more issues for the country. A specific political party has added hatred in the politics. The interpretation Article 224 after the 18th amendment indicates that the elections will be held under the caretaker government. The only way forward is that all the political parties must sit together to come up with a solution. Unfortunately, the parliament has failed to fulfill its responsibilities of judicial reforms. The nation will have to face the consequences of the current political instability in the country. It is the moral responsibility of the President Dr. Arif Alvi to sign the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act, 2023, so that the country can get rid of the constitutional and political crises.
Amanullah Kanrani (Former President Supreme Court Bar Association): After the verdict of Justice Qazi Faiz Isa regarding suo moto notices, the Supreme Court office rejected Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s observation regarding suo moto notices hearing. According to the Supreme Court, the decision of the Qazi Faez Isa bench could not curb the suo motu powers of the chief justice. However, in my opinion, the Chief Justice has made an unconstitutional verdict. The 3-member bench led by Chief Justice ordered the government to hold snap polls in the country’s most populous province of Punjab on May 14.
