Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi says negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf were held in good faith, but the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister attempted to sabotage the process.
Addressing a news conference in Lahore today, he said the opposition stepped back from its commitment after a draft agreement had been prepared, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister attempted to make changes to the final draft.
Mohsin Naqvi said the government wants the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to demonstrate seriousness in dealing with terrorism.
The Minister said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif were kept informed of the situation on a moment-to-moment basis.
He said the government's objective is to ensure unity among all stakeholders in dealing with terrorism.
Mohsin Naqvi said the government will not allow a repeat of May 9-like events under any circumstances.
The Minister said the law will be enforced to the fullest extent and no leniency will be shown.
He said any loss of life or damage during the long march would be considered contempt of court.
The Minister said if even a single life is lost, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister will be held responsible.
