The government is undertaking several important development projects in Gilgit-Baltistan, focusing on infrastructure, energy, education, and social improvement.
A solar power project of one hundred megawatt is set to be launched in the region which will promote sustainable energy supply. This project will provide 40 MW of power to Gilgit, and 20 MW each to Skardu, Chilas, and Ghanche.
The government has also initiated sixteen MW hydroelectric power project, Nalter-III, aimed at meeting the energy needs of Gilgit city and nearby areas. The project, with a cost of 6.199 billion rupees, will efficiently distribute energy through a 66 kV transmission line.
Another hydropower project, 100 MW Gilgit KIU Hydropower Project, has also been started. This project, part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is expected to become operational this year.
To address electricity shortages in winter, the government has announced two additional hydroelectric power projects in the region, with work progressing rapidly.
In terms of connectivity, the government has inaugurated the Naltar Expressway in Gilgit-Baltistan, which will improve the region's infrastructure and open new avenues for development.
Gilgit-Shandur Road project, worth fifty billion rupees, will connect Gilgit to Chitral, enhancing trade and transportation options. This project will serve as an alternative to the Karakoram Highway and will increase commercial opportunities between Gilgit and Chitral.
The government has established Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Gilgit-Baltistan to foster economic development. Software technology parks and freelancing hubs have also been established in the region.
