Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar says sports and cultural events are a true depiction of Pakistan and should be held regularly.
He was addressing the Pakistan Tourism, Sports and Family Festival in Islamabad today alongside Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Tourism Yasir Ilyas Khan.
The Information Minister said these events promote sportsmanship, give an opportunity to the youth to demonstrate their skills and provide healthy recreational activities to the general public.
He said such events also generate inclusive economic activity in the country that spans all vistas of development.
He said this festival features a wide range of activities including sports like paragliding, hot air ballooning, tent pegging and family activities like food, art and craft stalls.
Referring specifically to tent pegging, the Minister said this game remains an emblem of Pakistan's sports heritage.
He said regularly organizing tent pegging events would keep traditions alive and connect the younger generation to its cultural identity.
The Minister was especially appreciative of the participation of female players in these games and said they are an inspiration for the world.
He said Pakistanis are excelling in every field and are second to none.
Speaking on the occasion, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Tourism Yasir Ilyas Khan said the festival aims to promote the soft image of the country and strengthen cross-border cultural linkages.
He said relevant stakeholders have been engaged to achieve this purpose. Yasir Ilyas mentioned the participation of diplomatic missions from different countries, including a Sri Lankan Buddhist delegation and the President of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce from Nepal.
He said there are over twenty stalls of international delegations at the festival.
He said similar events will be held across the country.
