To further its hegemonic designs in the region, India has test-fired a new Vertically Launched Short Range Surface to Air Missile in Chandipur off the coast of Odisha state.

According to Indian ministry of defence, the missile has an operational range of 50 to 60 kilometres and has been designed for Indian Navy for neutralising aerial threats at close ranges, including sea-skimming targets.
