GB government taking steps for women empowerment: Shamsuddin

Gilgit-Baltistan government is taking a number of steps to facilitate and assist in economic empowerment of womenfolk to make them productive asset of society.

This was stated by Coordinator to Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan on Women Development, Child Protection and Human Rights Syed Shamsuddin in an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan’s News and Current Affairs Channel in Islamabad today (Tuesday).

He said women will be imparted new skills to enable them to earn their livelihood and become financially independent. He said financial independence will allow women to play a more active role in their family lives as well as in broader society. He said new vocational and general education schools for females will be opened in the area.

Syed Shamsuddin said women of Gilgit-Baltistan are expert in various handicrafts and government will find new markets for their products. He said traditional methods of food preservation result in loss of a large quantity of fruits. Training on modern methods of food preservation and marketing will be given to women to help them run their businesses successfully.

He said women will also be trained in modern skills including marketing and IT to help them run their own businesses on modern lines. He said the program will be expanded to district and tehsil levels in various phases.

The Coordinator to CM Gilgit Baltistan said after assuming his portfolio, he is taking steps to make the department more vibrant and energetic. Referring to mother and child protection, he said a program to provide diet rich food will be started for new mothers and children to improve their health.

Syed Shamsuddin said under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s dynamic leadership, people friendly policies are being adopted and people of Gilgit-Baltistan will observe marked improvements in their lives. 

Appreciating the role of Radio Pakistan, Syed Shamsuddin said the national broadcaster is a great forum to disseminate information about government policies and programs to people in far flung areas of the country.
