The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appointed Miguel Angel Moratnos as a Special Envoy to combat Islamophobia.

He is currently serving as Under Secretary General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.

Welcoming the appointment, Pakistan's Representative to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmed said appointment is a major milestone in OIC's efforts to combat Islamophobia and promote tolerance, respect and peaceful co-existence.

He said together we stand against faith-based hatred and discrimination.
