
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government's commitment to eliminating tuberculosis (TB), HIV and malaria from the country.
He was talking to a delegation of the Global Fund, led by Head of the Grant Management Division, Mark Edington, in Islamabad today.
Welcoming the delegation, the Prime Minister said the government is making all-out efforts to combat these diseases.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan highly values its partnership with the Global Fund and appreciates its significant contribution to improving public health across the developing world.
He said the Global Fund is a key partner in strengthening Pakistan's healthcare system, adding that its support is reinforcing the country's efforts to eliminate HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.
The Prime Minister directed the formation of a joint working group between the Government of Pakistan and the Global Fund to further strengthen efforts aimed at preventing the spread of HIV.
During the meeting, officials of the Ministry of National Health Services briefed the delegation on the government's ongoing efforts to prevent and control TB, HIV and malaria in Pakistan.
The delegation thanked the Government of Pakistan for its hospitality and appreciated the measures being taken to eliminate these diseases.
The delegation, which also included Senior Portfolio Manager Izaskun Gaviria and Deputy General Counsel Natasha Heffinck, reaffirmed its continued partnership with Pakistan in support of these efforts.
