SIFC, GPI collaborating to promote modern technology in agri sector
September 10, 2026

Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI) are collaborating to promote modern technology and improved seeds in the agricultural sector.

A significant breakthrough has been achieved at the policy level regarding the cultivation of genetically modified 'GM Maize' in Pakistan.

'GM Maize' is a seed produced with modern technology that helps in increasing resistance against pests, diseases and weather effects.

The Cabinet Committee has also accorded in-principle approval to cultivate genetically modified 'GM Maize' in Pakistan.

The approval to cultivate 'GM' Maize will enhance the agricultural sector's ability to adapt to modern seeds, higher yields and climate change.

The Chief Executive of SIFC's Green Pakistan Initiative also attended the committee meeting along with the Federal Finance Minister.

Global multinational companies like Monsanto, Bayer, Cargill, Syngenta and Corteva have been active in Pakistan's seed industry since 1980s.

According to a State Bank report, multinational companies have been playing a key role in introducing agricultural innovation and new technologies through hybrid seeds.
