PM calls for comprehensive strategy to combat diabetes

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to evolve a comprehensive and effective strategy for the prevention of diabetes across the country.

He was talking to a delegation of national and international endocrinologyanddiabetesspecialists, which called on him in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister emphasized that prioritizing disease prevention alongside treatment is essential to tackling the growing health challenge posed by diabetes.

He further directed to take effective measures to promote a healthy lifestyle among youth, particularly college and university students.

The Prime Minister stressed the need to promote public awareness regarding the adoption of a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and healthy lifestyle habits at national level.

He said awareness related to diabetes prevention, timely diagnosis and healthy lifestyle should be disseminated through television, radio, digital platforms and other media of communication.

Shehbaz Sharif said a clear policy and an actionable plan aligned with national priorities are essential to preventing diabetes. He added that the relevant institutions should formulate a coordinated strategy for research, public awareness, and preventive measures.

He said fostering regional and international cooperation is essential to effectively tackle the growing challenge of diabetes.

The Prime Minister directed to make disease prevention measures in the country more effective by learning from international experiences, research, and best practices.

On the occasion, the delegation’s members appreciated the recent measures and policy implementation regarding the prevention and control of diabetes and other diseases.

They also expressed resolve to support diabetes prevention and public awareness campaigns in Pakistan.
