Analysts hope Foreign Minister’s visit to Berlin will further cement Pak, German bilateral relations
April 11, 2021

Dr. A. Z. Hilali (IR Expert): Visit of Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to Germany is a positive development. It is first visit of any Pakistani foreign minister to Germany since 2012. Moreover, Pakistan and Germany will also mark the completion of 70 years of their diplomatic relations. Germany is well aware that Pakistan is an important South Asian stakeholder and actively participates in all kinds of regional activities. Germany is also interested in peace and stability in South Asian region. During his meetings with German officials, Foreign Minister will discuss Afghan peace process as well as Kashmir issue. After the unilateral step taken by India on 5th August, 2019 in IIOJ&K, entire South Asian scenario has changed. India has become a source of trouble as it is violating all international and humanitarian laws. Shah Mahmood Qureshi will exchange views with German officials on trade and economy as well. Germany is a developed country and there is a lot of potential to increase the existing trade volume between Islamabad and Berlin.

Khalid Khattak (Former Ambassador): Germany is among the countries with very strong economies and stable politics. The narrative of Pakistan and Germany on Afghan situation is almost the same.  The visit of Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to Germany would also try to seek German support for economic stabilization of Pakistan. Moreover, Pakistan is an important trading partner of European Union and after Brexit Germany being viewed as leader of the EU. Pakistan and Germany are celebrating the 70th anniversary of establishment of their diplomatic relations. Both countries are planning to undertake a number of activities in this context and already collaborating on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Nuzhat Pathan (Leader, PTI): We must thank Allah Almighty for granting us a visionary leader like Imran Khan. The Prime Minister considers the poor segments of society close to his heart. Provision of food and shelter to poor people is main responsibility of the state. The novel initiative of ‘Ehsaas Koi Bhooka Na Soye’ would be expanded in the country. Under this program, free of charge meals will be delivered to destitute through food trucks. The initiative is a public private partnership in which Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal is responsible for operation of trucks and Saylani Welfare International Trust for the provision of meals. PTI government is implementing its manifesto of taking care of vulnerable people.
