July 11, 2026

Deputy Senior Manager of Marie Stopes Society (MSS) Pakistan, Aamir Yousaf, has said that rapid population growth remains Pakistan's biggest national challenge and requires a coordinated response to ensure sustainable development.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan's correspondent Qasim Bukhari, he welcomed the establishment of the National Population Council under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, calling it a major step towards addressing population and development challenges through federal-provincial coordination.

Aamir Yousaf said unchecked population growth is putting immense pressure on healthcare, education, employment, food security, and other socio-economic sectors.

He warned that if the current population growth rate continues, Pakistan could become the world's fourth most populous country by 2034–35, stressing the need for immediate policy action.

He said Marie Stopes Society Pakistan is committed to reducing maternal mortality, preventing unintended pregnancies, and expanding access to quality reproductive healthcare and family planning services.
