The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is committed to upholding law and order, protecting the lives and property of citizens, and restoring normalcy.
This was stated by AJK Special Secretary Home Chaudhry Guftar Hussain while addressing a joint news conference with AJK Police Spokesperson Irfan Masood Kashfi in Muzaffarabad today.
The Home Secretary made it clear that no armed or violent group will be allowed to challenge the writ of the state.
He said the banned Awami Action Committee has been engaged in attempts to disrupt peace, stability, the writ of the state and normal life in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the committee is using agitation, propaganda and social media misinformation to incite people against state institutions and create unrest. Chaudhry Guftar Hussain said the banned group is exploiting women, children and students as human shields during protests, calling the practice unethical and a threat to their safety and future. He said the banned group is also promoting anti-Pakistan narratives, targeting the Armed Forces, blocking highways and disrupting the supply of essential goods.
The Special Secretary Home said general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir will be held as scheduled on the 27th of this month. He said the government is committed to ensuring free, fair and transparent elections, while election campaigns by political parties are continuing peacefully across the region.
The Spokesperson of AJK Police said the law enforcement agencies have the situation fully under control and are continuing operations to restore normalcy across the state.
He said the primary objective of the ongoing operation is to clear highways and ensure the protection of the lives and property of the people.
The spokesperson said the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities will be ensured, while efforts are also underway to restore commercial and economic activities for traders and citizens.
He said the operation will continue until all highways are completely cleared to ensure lasting peace, the rule of law and the free movement of the public throughout the state.
