Adviser to Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad says Pakistan has repaid debt of around 4722 billion rupees ahead of schedule, marking a historic achievement in the country's financial management.

In a statement, he said effective financial policies and improved debt management have enabled Pakistan to strengthen fiscal discipline and economic stability.

He said during financial year 2025-26 alone, debt worth 2900 billion rupees has been repaid before maturity, which is 62 percent higher compared to the previous financial year.

Khurram Schehzad said the debt repaid ahead of schedule includes 51 percent borrowings from the State Bank of Pakistan and 49 percent from other financial institutions.

He said Pakistan's debt-to-GDP ratio has declined from 75 percent to around 68.5 percent, reflecting improvement in the country's financial position.

The Finance Minister's Adviser said the improved debt management strategy has enhanced investor confidence and further consolidated economic stability.

He added that Pakistan is moving towards a stronger, sustainable and lower-cost financial system through better debt management practices.
