Amb. Waheed Ahmad(Former Diplomat): Nakba Day commemoration reminds the world about the urgency of volatile situation in occupied Palestine where Palestinians are facing ethnic cleansing. The Israel should come to peace and let Palestinians live in peace. Palestine issue is one of the oldest outstanding and unresolved disputes like Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has rightly reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong resolute to support for the creation of a sovereign, independent, viable, and contiguous Palestinian State based on pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. On 78th solemn anniversary of Nakba, Pakistan remembers the enduring suffering and displacement of the Palestinians from their homeland since 1948. Pakistan demands an immediate end to the oppression, occupation, and violence being perpetrated by Israeli occupation authorities against Palestinians. Israel must realize that no issue has ever been resolved through war. Therefore, the world needs to resolve this issue for global peace and stability. Tashkent, Simla accords are glaring examples of outcome of table talks for ensuring peace after the wars between India and Pakistan. Likewise, Israel must also realize that durable and long-lasting peace can only be achieved in result of talks. Gaza Board of Peace is a good name but the US shows no commitment to peace in Gaza so far. The term of ceasefire can’t be used in the conflict on Gaza because Gazans are innocent and unarmed people whereas Israeli forces are equipped with world’s latest arms and weapons. Israelis are inflicting injustices and cruelties on innocent and unarmed Palestinians. However, term ceasefire can be used between the US and Iran because both sides have armed forces to combat against each other. Israelis can’t dare go for an open war with Iran because Iranians are also well equipped to respond in a befitting manner. Israelis are encouraged to target innocent Palestinians because Palestinians have nothing to respond in a befitting manner to Israeli forces.
