A policeman was martyred and a polio worker was injured when unknown gunmen opened fire at polio vaccination team in Tehsil Banda Daud Shah of Karak district today.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have has strongly condemned the attack on polio workers in district Karak of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a statement, the President said terrorists are the enemies of the future of the country and the nation, and they do not want to see Pakistani people as healthy and prosperous.

He appealed to the people to actively participate in the anti-polio campaign and make sure to administer anti-polio drops to their children.

In his message, the Prime Minister said the sacrifices of security forces for the eradication of polio from country will not go in vain.

He said the government will utilize all resources for the safety of polio workers and complete eradication of polio from the country.

Meanwhile, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has termed attack on polio team as a cowardly act.

He expressed grief over the loss of precious life of the policeman in the incident and directed to provide best medical treatment to the injured polio worker.         

The Governor sought a report from higher officials on the incident.
