The Prime Minister's Task Force on Maritime Reforms is taking practical steps to promote shrimp farming with the aim of expanding aquaculture and boosting exports.
Shrimp farming clusters are being established on saline lands in Sindh, Balochistan and other provinces.
Under the project, three thousand and five hundred acres of saline land will be converted into shrimp farms.
A modern multipurpose hatchery for shrimp breeding will be established in Balochistan's coastal region.
A Research and Development Centre will be set up in South Punjab to support the growth of the fisheries sector.
With private-sector collaboration, shrimp hatcheries, feed mills and processing facilities will also be established. The project is expected to produce 10,500 tons of export-quality aquatic products annually and generate 7.8 billion rupees in foreign exchange earnings.
