Pakistan beat Cambodia 1-0 in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers match played at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad today.
This is the first round of qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2026 being hosted by Pakistan.
With the victory, Pakistan has qualified for the second stage of FIFA world cup qualifiers.
The Ambassador of Argentine to Pakistan witnessed the match.
Gracing the occasion as chief guest, Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi congratulated both the participating teams.
He said today we celebrate the victory and success of football not just our country.
The Minister said no team lost the game and it was a win-win for all sides.
He said football is a common man's game and needs to be given due priority in Pakistan.
Noting that the stadium where match was played has been renovated with China's support, Murtaza Solangi said this is yet another victory as it coincides with the Prime Minister's presence in Beijing.
He hoped that the positive spirit and pleasant ambience of the game permeate our political culture. He said administrative problems related to the game will be solved at the earliest.
The Minister applauded young player Harun Hamid for scoring the decisive goal of the match.
In his remarks on the occasion, Caretaker Minister for Sports Balochistan Jamal Raisani said this is our first victory in the qualifiers for FIFA 2026.
