Dr. Talat Shabir (Economist): The government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has almost steered out Pakistan’s economy from danger zone and put it on right track. Now the economy has almost been stabilized. Pakistan’s economy is considered to be open and undocumented one and tax evaders take advantage from such kind of economy. Therefore the government has started process of digitization of economy because undocumented economy does not provide a fair room for tax collection. Digitization of economy will benefit almost every segment of society and every sector of economy. Moreover, tax system collection should be further simplified as complex tax payment system leads to massive corruption in this system. Tax system should be horizontal type; higher tax rates on higher income and lower tax on lower income groups. Moreover, mass awareness campaign should be launched to sensitize the public about importance of payment of taxes to the government. In response, there should be trickle down impact of payment of taxes on the lives of the people in the form of provision of relief and facilities by the government. Therefore, the government should ensure provision of relief to the people so that public’s trust in the economic policies of the government may be enhanced. Overseas Pakistanis have played key role in providing shelter to national economy as they have remitted record high remittances in March.
