Analysts urge the EU and the UN to play role in stopping Israeli barbarism on Palestinians
May 18, 2021

Dr. Rasul Bakhsh Rais (IR Expert): The genocide of innocent Palestinians by Israeli government is going on for the last over 75 years. Western media is portraying the prevailing situation in Gaza with a tilt towards the Israel. It is responsibility of the world powers and the United Nations to force Israel to stop human rights violations in Palestine. Muslim countries should get united and raise their strong voice over brutal use of force on Palestinians. The United Nations has urged Israel not to make demographic and territorial changes in the occupied territory and immediately cease its hostilities. Pakistan has unanimously passed a resolution to express solidarity with Palestinian brethren. It is unfortunate that the United States and other powers are supporting Israel, which will further embolden it to continue murdering Palestinians. It is need of the hour to bring an immediate end to the bloodshed, and highlight the risk of violence to spill over into the wider region. Unfortunately, some regional countries are not supportive to Palestine cause.

Ali Sarwar Naqvi (Former Ambassador): United States approved weapons worth $735 million for Israel but these will be used against the Palestinian children by the Israeli forces. Jordan is home to millions of Palestinian refugees and asserts itself as a protector of the Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. The only way forward is to return to peace negotiations with the goal of establishing a separate Palestinian state that lives side-by-side with Israel in peace, harmony and mutual recognition, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states, based on relevant United Nations resolutions, international law and prior agreements. In Gaza, the humanitarian and security conditions are gradually deteriorating. It is a fact that the current Israeli intervention would have devastating consequences for Israelis. Israel must abide by the international humanitarian law including the proportional use of force and maximum restraint to protect civilians in the conduct of military operations.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): Israel is committing state-terrorism in Palestine but international community has adopted a criminal silence. The world must realize the gravity of the prevailing situation in Gaza. The world powers have double standards for Muslims and other communities. Israel is openly violating international laws, humanitarian norms and UN charter. The Muslim Ummah must play its role to make the world realize that patience of Muslims should not be tested time and again. Pakistan is among the countries that are openly raising voice in favor of Palestinians. The time demands to convene an emergency session of the UN General Assembly to raise voice for Palestinians. In the age of social media, Palestinian voices could not be forcibly suppressed and media houses could not be silenced. Even Jewish community in some countries has protested to show solidarity with Palestinians. They burned Israeli flags, chanted anti-Israel slogans and flew Hamas banners.

Shahid Amin (Former Ambassador): I strongly condemn indiscriminate attacks by Israeli forces against unarmed people of Palestine. I think the international community, including the OIC countries ad Arab nations, should chalk out a joint strategy over Israeli aggression against innocent Palestinians. Pakistan should raise its strong voice at the OIC against Israeli barbarism on Muslim brothers and sisters of Palestine. I think Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi are forcefully taking up this issue. Foreign Minister has expressed hope that EU foreign ministers' meeting taking place tomorrow will raise voice for the sake of humanity and to protect fundamental human rights of the Palestinians. I think the United States should exert pressure on Israel to stop aggression against innocent Palestinians. Unless there is change in US policy towards Israel, there is no expectation of peace in Palestine.
