Analysts hail Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to Afghan peace process
June 18, 2021

Rahimullah Yusufzai (IR Expert): Pakistan is committed to support Afghan reconciliation process. The Kabul government is not playing its part wisely and has lost its control over different rural parts of the country. Taliban have emerged as a strong political power. Unfortunately, peace talks between Taliban and Afghan government remain unsuccessful. It is true that Afghan troops are joining the Taliban. The Afghan forces cannot survive without the US support. The Taliban are getting stronger day by day. Pakistan is ready to endorse every initiative taken for Afghan peace. Pakistan has paid a huge price for regional peace. An Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process is the ultimate solution to Afghan crisis.

Dr. Sarfraz Khan (IR Expert): The Afghan administration is not fully prepared to face the circumstances after withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan. Islamabad desires for durable peace in Afghanistan and we are committed to facilitating the Afghan reconciliation process. Pakistan supports an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process. Peace in Pakistan is directly linked with peace in Afghanistan. The Kabul government must take corrective measures to ensure that its land is not used against Pakistan. Peace and political stability in Afghanistan is not in the interest of peace spoilers.

Brig. (Retd.) Said Nazir (Defense Analyst): Ground reality of Afghanistan suggests that Taliban have regained their control over more than eighty percent of the country. The Kabul government has failed to establish its writ. Taliban are determined to take the government forcefully. The Kabul government is not capable enough to confront the Taliban forces. Deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan is not in the interest of the region. Pakistan is highly concerned with the security situation in Afghanistan. Civil war in Afghanistan would adversely affect Pakistan.
