The fifty-second death anniversary of legendary classical singer Ustad Amanat Ali Khan is being observed today (Friday).

He was born in 1922 in Hoshiarpur, British India, into the famous Patiala Gharana of musicians.

He moved to Pakistan in 1948.

Amanat Ali Khan was a master of ghazal, raag and thumri genres of music.

His ghazals, including “Insha Ji Utho Ab Kuch Karo”, “Honton Pe Kabhi Unke Mera Naam” and “Aa Mere Pyar Ki Khushboo”, among many others, continue to mesmerize listeners.

He was awarded the Pride of Performance by the Government of Pakistan.

Ustad Amanat Ali Khan died on this day in 1974 and is buried in Lahore.
