Israeli warplanes have bombed the Occupied Gaza strip in midnight raids.
Palestinian security officials in Gaza said Israeli fighter jets carried out seven successive airstrikes but there were no reports of casualties.
Hamas armed wing Al-Qassam Brigades said its activists fired surface-to-air missiles at the Israeli fighter jets and forced them to leave.
Hamas spokesman in Gaza, Hazem Qassem said that the airstrikes on southern Gaza Strip are a failed attempt to prevent the Palestinian people from resisting the occupation and defend the city of Al-Quds and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
An Israeli army spokesman in a statement confirmed that Israeli fighter jets bombed a number of targets in Gaza Strip.
Tension has mounted across the Palestinian territories since Israeli forces raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque in which some 170 Palestinians were wounded.
