The National Disaster Management Authority has warned of flooding in eastern and western rivers and streams, as well as urban flooding in low-lying areas, from today to Thursday due to heavy monsoon rains.

According to the NDMA, a strong monsoon system, coupled with a powerful westerly weather system, is expected to bring heavy rainfall at various places in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and upper Punjab.

The Authority has cautioned that flash floods and hill torrents may occur in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and northern upper Punjab.

Flood surges are also expected in the Chenab River at Marala and in the upper reaches of the Jhelum River near Mangla.

The NDMA has warned of flash flooding in local streams passing through Sialkot, including Aik, Palkhu, Munawar Tawi and Jammu Tawi, as well as in the Bein, Basantar and Deg streams in Narowal, streams originating from Bhimber and flowing into Gujrat, and in Muridke.

A high risk of flash floods has also been forecast in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, as well as in streams and seasonal waterways in Murree and Galiyat.

The water level in the Kabul River and its tributaries is expected to rise significantly, with high alert conditions likely in vulnerable areas, including Nowshera.

There is also a risk of flooding in areas adjoining the Kabul River, particularly along the Panjkora, Swat and Chitral rivers.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rainfall and flash flooding are expected in Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Malakand, Shangla, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai-Palas, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur.

The NDMA has also issued a flash flood alert for Gilgit-Baltistan, covering Hunza (Shimshal, Hunza and Kilik), Nagar (Hispar), Gilgit (Gilgit, Naltar and Bagrot), Ghizer (Ghizer and Ishkoman), Diamer (Thor, Kiner, Diamer, Thak and Shaitan Nallah), Shigar (Shigar River) and Ghanche (Shyok and Hushe).

The Authority has warned of a high risk of urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Lahore and Sheikhupura.

Flash floods are also likely in hill torrents and adjoining streams in the districts of Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Mardan and Dera Ismail Khan.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the rivers Neelum, Jhelum and Poonch, along with their tributary streams, are expected to experience high flows.

The NDMA has further warned of flash flooding in hill torrents and seasonal streams in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Barkhan, Loralai and Zhob in northern Balochistan.

The NDMA has directed the relevant departments and the public to remain on high alert.

The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise extreme caution near mountain slopes, riverbanks, and vulnerable highways.

Citizens should avoid unnecessary movement and stay away from rainwater drains and flooded roads.

The NDMA has instructed the relevant authorities to keep emergency machinery and rescue teams on standby.

Travelers and tourists are advised to exercise utmost caution while using mountainous and landslide-prone routes and to avoid unnecessary travel.

People are urged to be careful when passing near hazardous slopes.
