President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have stressed the importance of greater awareness, detection, treatment and care for women affected by breast cancer.

In their separate messages on the Breast Cancer Awareness Day being observed today, they said breast cancer affects thousands of families in Pakistan and its consequences place emotional and social pressures on families.

President Asif Ali Zardari said this day provides an opportunity to remind women of the importance of paying attention to their health and seeking appropriate medical advice when they notice changes or have concerns.

In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said a comprehensive strategy has been developed to promote early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

He said the government is firmly committed to ensuring that no Pakistani woman is deprived of timely and quality treatment because of her geographical location or financial circumstances.
