Pakistan's sponsored resolution reaffirming right to self-determination for peoples living under foreign occupation unanimously adopted
November 19, 2021

At the United Nations, a Pakistan sponsored resolution reaffirming the right to self-determination for peoples who are subjected to colonial, foreign and alien occupation, has been unanimously adopted.

The resolution, submitted by Pakistan and co-sponsored by 73 countries, was adopted without a vote in the UN General Assembly's Third Committee, which deals with social, humanitarian and cultural issues.

The resolution, which Pakistan has been sponsoring since 1981, serves to focus the world's attention on the peoples still struggling for their inalienable right to self-determination, including those in Kashmir and Palestine.

It is expected to come up for the UN General Assembly's endorsement next month.

Introducing the draft, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, said international community is obligated to ensure the right of self-determination for all peoples living under subjugation, alien domination and foreign occupation.
