Analysts hail deep rooted Pak, Turkey relations in the defense field
May 20, 2022

Waheed Ahmed (Former Ambassador): Pakistan's relations with Turkey have always been brotherly and friendly. A Turkish Foreign Minister once declared him Pakistani. The cooperation between our defense forces has always been outstanding. Moreover, we have strong economic relations with Turkey for the last many years. The people of both the countries have affinity, love and affection towards each other. Exploring the possibility of research and development programs and joint ventures between the two nations is important. There is a need to proceed on defense collaboration by conducting strategic planning.

Ali Sarwar Naqvi (Former Ambassador): Pakistan and Turkey have deep, strong and friendly relations and both the countries cooperate in different fields of life. Induction of the MILGEM-class ship PNS Badar in the Pakistan Navy is a good development and it is jointly constructed by Pakistan and Turkey.  The MILGEM-class ship PNS Badar will enhance the defense capabilities of our navy. It is a milestone that will take the friendship of Pakistan and Turkey to new heights. Relations between both the nations will gain momentum through strengthened defense collaboration. The two sides have been cooperating to further deepen this relationship and explore new areas of cooperation.

A. M. Shahid (Former Ambassador): Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto not only addressed the media but he also discussed the issue of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. The FM said Pakistan wants peace with all of the neighboring countries, including India, but it cannot be achieved until the Kashmir issue is resolved. Unfortunately, India never really listens to the Kashmiri people, and the conviction of Hurriyat Leader Yaseen Malik is another example. The FM urged the Indian leader to respect the basic rights of the Kashmiri people. The situation of Pakistan can be managed if the US and the world cooperate with Islamabad and provide it with necessary funds to help out the Afghan refugees. The Taliban regime should listen to the world community as well, as the times have changed. Afghan government should ensure the basic rights of its people, including female education.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): Present Indian regime under the leadership of Narendra Modi is following the Hindutva ideology. India in 2019 through a unilateral move abrogated the article 370 and 35-A as an effort to change the demography in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The world is witnessing the worst human rights violations committed by Indian forces in IIOJ&K. Moreover, the extremists in India are targeting the minorities and forcing them to change their religion to Hinduism. It is high time that the international community takes serious notice of Indian policies against the minorities. The criminal silence of the world is motivating India to commit more human rights and religious violations. The world needs to abandon its double standards and pressurize New Delhi to stop targeting the Muslims within India and the IIOJ&K. The United Nations and the OIC must intervene to reach a solution to Kashmir dispute.
