
The Senate was informed today that broadband connectivity through satellite is a key component of Pakistan’s digital strategy.
Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja told the House in a written reply that the draft of Satellite Communications Regulations has been prepared by Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board while PTA has developed the Fixed Satellite Services Licensing framework.
She said it is expected to be presented before the Federal Cabinet soon.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the Fixed Satellite Services licensing framework will enable satellite broadband, bandwidth provision and corporate data services, thereby supporting a comprehensive satellite enabled connectivity ecosystem.
She said the proposed regulatory framework aligns with international best practices and provides a transparent and investment friendly environment.
Shaza Fatima said that several leading global satellite operators including SpaceX, OneWeb, Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology and Sateliot, have shown interest in entering the Pakistani market.
Minister of State for Climate Change Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal told the house that eight hundred million rupees have been allocated under the up-scaling Green Pakistan program for development of the National Botanical Garden.
