Iran and Sudan have restored their diplomatic relations after a span of eight years.

Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan formally received the credentials of Iran's new Ambassador Hassan Shah Hosseini at Port Sudan.

In a statement, Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council described the ceremony as the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations between the two nations.

Iran and Sudan had agreed to resume diplomatic relations in last October.
