Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the non-functionality of CT Coronary Angiography facility at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad.
The Prime Minister has also set up an inquiry committee to ascertain the facts. He directed the committee to examine all aspects of the matter, identify the facts and responsibility and submit its report.
The committee will review whether PIMS had the technical capability to perform CT Coronary Angiograms since 2022 and if so, to what extent the required technical facilities, human resources and software were available for it.
The committee will also review the procedures, their number, dates and nature of the CT Coronary Angiograms performed at PIMS since 2022, while reviewing all relevant documentary evidences including the record of the relevant hospital.
The committee will also review any formal referral mechanism, mutual coordination and management role for CT Coronary Angiography between the Cardiology and Radiology Departments at PIMS.
The committee will examine whether patients of the Cardiology Department were in routine referred to private medical centres for CT Coronary Angiogram and if so, whether a particular private institution was given preference and how much financial business was diverted from the government hospital to private centres as a result.
The committee will examine any miscommunication, mismanagement or misunderstanding between the Cardiology and Radiology Departments of PIMS and inflicting loss to public interest and determine the responsible officers or offices.
The committee will also examine any other aspects related to the matter.
The Prime Minister has directed the committee to submit its report after a thorough examination of all relevant facts and records so that further action in the matter can be taken in accordance with the law and rules.
The National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Division will provide assistance to the committee during the inquiry.
The Chairman of the committee will be the Secretary Establishment Division. The other members of the inquiry committee will be Secretary National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Division, Brigadier Dr. Jahanzeb Ali, Dr. Nusratullah Chaudhry, Professor Dr. Nadeem Hayat Malik, Brigadier (Retd) Dr. Azmat Hayat and Umar Farooq (CT Angiography Technician).
