The National Assembly was informed today that the Karachi-Rohri section of the Main Line-1 railway track will be completed at a cost of 2.5 billion dollars.
Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi stated this while responding to a question during Question Hour in the House today.
He said the project will be completed with the cooperation of the Asian Development Bank, with groundbreaking likely to take place in January or February next year.
Hanif Abbasi also informed the House that around 200,000 kanals of railway land has so far been retrieved from illegal occupants.
Replying to another question, Hanif Abbasi said a full-fledged Safety Directorate has been established to effectively monitor overall safety issues and issue safety instructions.
Answering another question, Minister of State for Law and Justice Aqeel Malik said field observations from the Multan mango belt and other mango-growing areas indicated that climatic variability has adversely affected mango production during the current season.
He said following the 18th Constitutional Amendment, agriculture, including extension services and orchard management, primarily falls within the domain of provincial governments.
Regarding sugar prices, Aqeel Malik said the Federal Government closely monitors sugar stocks and market supplies across the country.
Aqeel Malik further said under the existing constitutional framework, provincial authorities, including Provincial Cane Commissioners and district administrations, are responsible for regulating local market supplies and monitoring prices.
The National Assembly today passed "The Life Insurance (Nationalization) (Amendment) Bill, 2026."
The House will now meet tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
