Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad says the World Bank has recognized Pakistan's progress in restoring macroeconomic stability, strengthening fiscal discipline and advancing structural reforms.
In a post on social media platform X, he cited the World Bank's latest report, "Pakistan Development Update: Attaining Escape Velocity," released today.
Highlighting key economic achievements acknowledged by the World Bank, the Adviser said economic growth has accelerated, with GDP growth rising to 3.7 percent in Fiscal Year 2026 from 3.2 percent in Fiscal Year 2025, despite global and regional shocks.
He said the primary fiscal surplus has reached 2.9 percent of GDP, supported by stronger revenues and expenditure discipline.
Khurram Schehzad pointed out that Pakistan's sovereign ratings have been upgraded by S&P and Moody's, reflecting growing international market confidence.
He said global market access has been restored following Pakistan's successful return to international debt markets through a three-billion-dollar Eurobond issuance.
Regarding structural reforms, he said the World Bank report specifically highlights progress in energy sector reforms, trade liberalization and privatization.
