Analysts hail Pakistan’s role in hosting millions of Afghan refugees for decades
November 22, 2020

Dr. A. Z. Hilali (IR Expert): Pakistan has always been a great host as far as Afghan refugees are concerned. Pakistan strongly believes in regionalism and has put all its efforts for regional peace and harmony. We believe that peace in region is imperative for political and economic stability of Pakistan. Islamabad has always endorsed every initiative taken for the success of Afghan reconciliation process. Pakistan has suffered a lot in the war against terrorism and our security forces have rendered matchless sacrifices to eradicate the menace of terrorism. The incumbent government is taking corrective measures to facilitate Afghan peace talks. Islamabad has offered its sincere cooperation for harmony and stability in Afghanistan. Pakistan is using all its resources for the success of Afghan peace process. It is the responsibility of the world community to compensate Islamabad for the losses it incurred due to Afghan crisis .The road to regional peace and prosperity passes through Pakistan.

Ghalib Iqbal (Former Ambassador): Pakistan has been hosting a large number of Afghan refugees for the last three decades. The Western world is only interested in safe withdrawal of the US troops from Afghanistan and they are least interested in resolving the issue of Afghan refugees. It is impossible to send back the Afghan refugees after many decades. The United States should not withdraw its troops from Afghanistan in a hasty manner. It is imperative for the world community to establish a job market in Afghanistan to adjust Afghan refugees in their country. There are some elements who do not want to end war in Afghanistan for their vested interests. The presence of the US troops is imperative to fully establish the writ of the Kabul government and control the security situation in Afghanistan.

Dr. Mumtaz Ali Khan (Focal person NIH): The coronavirus related research is underway and more work is required to get the authentic information regarding COVID-19. The agreed points are that it is a virus which is followed by the symptoms including fever, cough, body ache, loss of smell and taste. Incubation period is from 3 to 14 days. There are two common tests to diagnose coronavirus which are PCR and antibodies. Everyone must observe all precautionary measures to stay safe and healthy. It is important to wear facemask and observe sufficient distance in gathering.

Dr. Tariq Sohail (Medical expert): It is very difficult to differentiate between seasonal fever, cough and COVID-19 pandemic symptoms without proper testing. One must be careful if fever, pain or cough persists for more than 24 hours. Seasonal flu related to allergy is not followed by the fever. Cough, fever, body ache and loss of smell are the strongest symptoms of COVID-19. We must not delay the management of COVID-19 infection. It is very difficult to diagnose the carriers of COVID-19 clinically. The people must observe all precautionary measures, including wearing masks and social distancing to stay safe and keep others safe. Trials are being held for Chinese vaccination and it will be available in the market in the coming months after successful experiments.
