The government has decided to conduct a technical audit of all DISCOs to assess power theft and system losses.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the committee on in-efficiencies and Electricity Theft in DISCOs in Islamabad today.

The Committee, co-chaired by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema and Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, further decided that the Terms of Reference for the technical audit would be finalised by next week.

Ahad Cheema stressed that the audit must include a comprehensive diagnostic analysis of the underlying causes of power theft and losses and produce credible and actionable findings.

He added that the findings of the technical audit would enable the government to take targeted and evidence-based measures to reduce power theft and distribution losses.

Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said the Power Division is actively working to control theft and losses, particularly in DISCOs.
