Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala Carlos Ramiro Martínez Alvarado on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, the two Ministers reaffirmed the friendly and cordial relations between Pakistan and Guatemala.

They welcomed the signing of the Agreement on Bilateral Political Consultations, noting that it would provide an institutional framework for regular engagement and help further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The Guatemalan Foreign Minister commended Pakistan's constructive role in diplomatic and mediation efforts in support of regional peace and stability.

The two sides exchanged views on the implications of ongoing crises for energy supplies and underscored the importance of the free flow of energy and maritime trade, dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional challenges.

Both Ministers underscored the importance of multilateralism in addressing global challenges and reaffirmed their commitment to multilateral institutions, particularly the United Nations.

The Guatemalan Foreign Minister also appreciated Pakistan's longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping.

Both sides agreed to stay in contact on matters of mutual interest.
