Pakistan, Azerbaijan enjoy close fraternal relations: Asif

The 8th meeting of the Joint Commission of Pakistan and Azerbaijan was held in Islamabad on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif said Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy close fraternal relations.

He said Azerbaijan is extending its unwavering support to Pakistan's stance on the Kashmir cause, while Pakistan supports Azerbaijan's position on Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

The Defence Minister said there are vast opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields while both the countries also tied in a strategic partnership.

Khawaja Asif said Pakistan will benefit from Azerbaijan's capabilities in the energy sector as this partnership will also be beneficial for both the countries.

Turning to Defence relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, Khawaja Asif said the agreements in defence sector between the two countries will further cement these relations. He expressed the hope that Azerbaijan will play a key role in the region.

The Defence Minister said there are enormous investment opportunities in the tourism sector as Business to Business (B2B) relations will augment investment in both the countries.

He also stressed on the need for increased cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan for preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. He said both the countries are also working on E-visa and direct flights.
