In Afghanistan, Taliban regime has banned demonstrations under the pretext of a new so-called police law, depriving the people of their fundamental right to protest.

According to Afghan media outlets Afghanistan International and Kabul Now, the Taliban regime has imposed a complete ban on public gatherings under the new police law, further expanding the police’s unlawful powers.

Under the new Afghan police law, the detention period for arrested individuals has been extended from three days to ten days. The new law also empowers police to use harsh language against suspects and force them to repent. Another inhumane provision of the controversial law allows Afghan police to threaten suspects with death.
