The 69th birth anniversary of eminent Urdu poet Parveen Shakir is being observed today (Wednesday).
Born this date in Karachi in 1952, Parveen Shakir became an acclaimed poet with her first published collection Khushbu in 1976.
Her other famous books include 'Mah-e-Tamam', 'Sad-Barg', 'Khud kalaami' and 'Inkar'.
She also served as a teacher and a civil servant.
In recognition of her significant contribution to Urdu literature, Parveen Shakir was awarded Presidential Pride of Performance award in 1990 and the Adamjee Literary award in 1976.
She died in a car accident in Islamabad on 26 December 1994.
