Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja says over 5.8 million people have so far been registered under the Prime Minister's Fuel Relief Scheme.

She was addressing a joint news conference alongside Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani in Islamabad today.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja further said around 6.1 million tokens have been generated and 4.7 million people have obtained fuel through the facility.

She said the five-litre limit for motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi has been removed following public feedback. The ownership requirement has also been abolished for motorcycle and rickshaw users using rented vehicles.

The Minister said motorcycle and rickshaw users can receive a 500-rupee token once a week, with no five-litre limit, while eligible vehicles up to 800cc can receive a discount of 100 rupees per litre for 10 litres on each token.

She highlighted that around 4.7 million people have benefited from the scheme within eight days across all four provinces, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Bilal Azhar Kayani said identification of deserving people under the fuel relief scheme is being carried out in a transparent manner.
